I’m on a roll.  This was a VERY degraded DSS-1 found by Hammer-BS in The Fields on 116.6.11.  I was not expecting to be able to recover anything, but this is actually quite an extensive dataset — too large to post here, so if you want to take a shot at decrypting this, you can download the dataset HERE.

I have recovered the following dataset from a DSS-2 in “poor” condition.  This DSS was found in Hook of Roh during the recent Miners Days Searching for Our History event:

Mr. Hammer’s decrypt of DSS 116.7.27D3D-0 was definitely morse code.  I was able to find some very old reference material and translate the morse code as:

F L M N G O I S S A F E A N D I S B E I N G R E L O C A T E D F O R E X T R A P R E C A U T I O N. S E C U R I T Y L E A K S H A V E B E E N D E A L T W I T H.

It looks like the first word (or words) might have been cut off or corrupted.

Hammer-BS helped me out — telling me that the reverse alphabet is known as “Atbash” encryption. From this I was able to find a tool (<- link) to do the legwork rather than the manual substitution that I had started.  This appears to be a report dated 102.5.22 to TRI about a maintenance check on a gate that had been infested:

I HAVE COMPLETED MY EXÙ;ç-# %ˆ´†þ¶Ó¦=KÑ<*å2ŸKRéÑHó–™E WHICH HAD BEEN “INFESTED” BY SOME KIND OF CONFLUX ORGANIC MEMBRANE. THE CONCERNS WERE BOTH THE POSIBLE EFFECTS OF THE ACTUAL INFESTATION AS WELL AS THE MULTIPLE NUCLQ ãTµV’2TIONS (12) REQUIRED TO CLEAR THAT INFESTATION.

I’M HAPPY TO REPORT THAT THERE DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE ANY DAMAGE. READINGS, FOR THE MOST PART ARE NOMINAL AND THE GATE APPEARS TO BE 100% FUNCTIONAL. I DID A FULL RE2¤#’šF‹¶IFAULT PARAMETERS AND RAN MULTIPLE SCANS DURING BOTH DORMANT AND ACTIVE PHASES. THE ONLY SOMEWHAT ANOMALOUS READING I HAVE GOTTEN, EVEN AFTER A HAEJ¡QSET, IS A NONLINEAR DAMPING WAVE SHOWING UP WITHIN THE STABILIZATION OSCILLATOR PATTERNS. I HAVE TRIED DOING A NUMBER OF RESETS AS WELL AS MANUAL ADJUSTMENTS, BUT NONE HAVE IMPACTED THIS DAMPING PATTERN. NONETHELESS, THI±²OES NOT APPEAR TO HAVE ANY IMPACT ON FUNCTIONALITY AND, IN FACT, APPEARS TO HAVE REDUCED THE BOTH THE POST-JUMP DISRUPTION FIELD AND EVEN APPEARS TO RESULT IN A VERY SMALL IMPROVEMENT IN ENERGY EFFICIENCY.

I WILL CONTI•`RJÌ9Î’TOR, TEST AND REPORT FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS.

I have followed The Master’s (Hammer-BS) guidance and I believe I have broken this code!  It’s a reverse-alphabet where A=Z, B=Y, C=X . . . Z=A.  I have just started to do the manual substitution and it seems to work in most places, and my guess is that where it is falling down is where there was corruption to the data.

So far I have just done the first couple of lines.  This manual sustitution is very time consuming so I’ll be a while completing it.

Finally got a quick one — this was a DSS3 in poor condition, that was recovered by Hammer_BS in Outer Roh Cloud.  As huge as the last dataset was, this one is tiny — so I suspect it doesn’t include much:

167 71 157 130 110 142 62 57 171 154 56 164 151 142

EDIT – 116.8.18

In case you did not see the comment, this turned out to be a live hyperlink to a 14-year-old mining newsletter (click on the pic to see the full page):

Harm Journal

The DSS decrypted code yielded an audio file (base64 in ascii octal code) – very badly corrupted though.

It seems to be a log entry from a Solrain pilot. For me it’s very hard to understand enough to have a clue what he’s talking about.

There was also a time-stamp on the DSS saying it was from 4780.9.17!

If it’s BT (=Before TRI), it would be unbelievable old – shortly after space flight was discovered, but before the plasma drive was invented.

I hope we can solve this secret.
